MAINTENANCE
RDS offers maintenance & Services to all customers with a Rainwater Harvesting System (RWHS); Maintenance is extended to RWHS that RDS installed or did Not Install.
Maintenance of the RWHS is key to ensure the quality of water for End-use or the Customer
1. One-time or single maintenance service:
Called-in or prompted by the Customer
2. MSA (Maintenance Service Agreement): An annual contract produced by RDS and accepted by Customer.
TYPES OF MAINTENANCE SERVICES
FREQUENCY:
A. RWHS that are designed & installed per ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI
63-2020 Standards every 4-6 months.
B. A RWHS that is Not installed to the ANSI 63 Standard will be evaluated and a Frequency of maintenance will determined with the results of the 1st & 2nd maintenance cycle & customer input.
The customer can also ask for a 1 time maintenance service to determine future service.
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN THE MAINTENANCE:
Change the cartridges in filter assemblies, verifies that UV is up to date (changes the bulb and quartz lens if necessary) verifies the Pressure & aeration Pumps are operating to mfg. specifications, Clean 1st flush devices & visually inspects tank & its components.
Potable Components
Customers who will be using the Rainwater for drinking, cooking, etc…or for potable purposes then a Potable Component package will need to be designed and tailored for the demand of the family or business.
The basic potable (drinking water) components are the following:
Sediment filter (20 - 25 micron)
Charcoal Filter (5 micron)
Ultra Violet (UV) light
This system above requires maintenance @ least Once every 4 to 6 months depending on water quality in the storage tank. This system can be taxed heavily if debris and heavy sediment are allowed to enter the storage tank. Experience tells us in RDS that customer with a dirty tank need to change the sediment & charcoal filters as often as once per month. But a clean well maintained system with a robust pre-filtration system can go as long as 6-8 months depending on water quality in the tank & size of potable filters.

Maintenance of Rainwater Catchment Surfaces:
Proper maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and effectiveness of rainwater catchment surfaces.
Regular upkeep not only preserves the quality of collected water but also extends the lifespan of the materials used.
Here are some maintenance tips for different types of surfaces:
Metal Roofs: Inspect for rust and corrosion periodically. Clean the surface to prevent debris buildup, which can obstruct water flow.
Tile Roofs: Regularly check for broken or cracked tiles. Ensure moss and algae do not accumulate, as they can hinder water collection.
Green Roofs: Monitor the health of the vegetation and soil. Trim overgrown plants and replace dead vegetation to maintain optimal water absorption.
Concrete Surfaces: Look for cracks or surface damage. Clean and seal the surface as needed to prevent contamination.
